March Break Camp:  March 13 to 19th, 2010 in Clermont, Florida.  Some units have been set aside for the club. Accomodation is by individual bookings directly with Vacation Village.  Vacation Village has cottages of various sizes in a semi-isolated setting.  For other accomodation suggestions contact Kevin.  Training at the U.S. National Training Center (swimming and running), cycling and transitions on the bike trails out of Clermont as well as the Lake Lousia State Park.  30 min. to Orlando.  60 plus minutes to beaches on the Gulf or the Atlantic..  This year we have arranged to have the bike trailer travel to Florida.  Exact costs for bike transport has not been finalized but around $100 return and no bike box required.  FYI bike boxes rent for $50 plus per week and transport of a bike by an airline is $100 to $200 per round trip.  AND you have to get the bikes to and from the airports!

March Break 2010 Training Camp

Join us for a fun-filled week of training in Florida. Featuring some of Ontario’s premier coaches, the Hamilton Hammerheads March Break Training Camp will offer an excellent week of training for athletes of all levels.

Set at the National Training Centre in Clermont, we’ll enjoy the use of fantastic facilities for swimming and running. Younger athletes will cycle on bike trails around Clermont and at Lake Louisa State Park, ensuring a completely safe environment for those just starting on road training. Our older athletes will enjoy some hard riding in the hilliest part of Florida!

Included in the week of training will be lots of technique and training sessions in all three sports, conducted in the fun atmosphere that the Hammerheads have become renowned for.

Training Costs: $not yet set, will be per Hamilton Hammerhead athlete; Training costs are for everyone from novice to elite.

Transportation: 24 plus hours driving. No team transportation plan in place.  Last year 80% flew out of Buffalo or Toronto to Orlando.  Rest drove.

Accommodations: Central accommodation will be at Vacation Village, south of Clermont. Other accommodations are available in the area but, these will book up long before March Break. Book soon.  Last year most of the team stayed at Vacation Village and one family rented a nearby house for the week.  If you do consider renting a house, look for something on the west shore of Lake Louisa, if you want to be close to the rest of the team at Vacation Village.

The Gulf of Mexico Beaches are 60 min. west and the Atlantic is 60 min east. Other notable attractions are the Kennedy Space Centre, Homossasa State Park (see the manatees), St. Petersburg Sunken Garden, Silver Springs, Daytona.

Group 1 and 2 will be determined based on cycling experience/ strength. Both groups will be further split to ensure all kids can get the most out of the week.

Notes:

l Athletes will not be expected to attend all workouts. The runs on Monday and Wednesday, along with the Transition workout on Friday, will be excellent workouts for the entire group to attend – there will be lots of fun activities to go along with the training.

l Each workout will feature a variety of levels and intensity to ensure that all athletes TRAIN at the appropriate level … not over train or race.

l The Head Coach (Kevin Mackinnon) will organize an appropriate level of participation for each athlete (including adding some more, if need be.

Paris-Ancaster Cycle Race Bike Wash (April 18, 2010)

For the fourth year in a row the team has been invited to wash the muddy bikes at the finish line of this cross-country cycle race. The turn-out and efforts from the team members and their families has always been outstanding making this fundraising event an annual success.
